How To Clean Mold in Your Baguio Home

Mold is a common thing in homes especially in places like Baguio City. With the weather and the humidity, these nasty little things can just get into any space in your home. And they can cause great damage to your Baguio home and even affect your health. The rule of thumb is if you find mold infestation covering 10 or more square feet of space in your home, it’s time to call in the professional. But for something smaller, you can do it on your own with some simple home remedies. Here are some tips to help you rid your Baguio home of mold.

Bathroom

If there’s a heaven for molds in your home, it’d probably be your bathroom because of the constant moisture and humidity. For a simple cleaning fix, mix one-part bleach to 16 parts water, soak the affected area with the mixture for at least 15 minutes, then easily scrub the mold away.

Walls, Flooring, and Carpets

To clean your walls and flooring, you can use a solution of one part dishwashing soap, 10 parts bleach, and 20 parts water. Apply it onto the affected area while being careful not to oversaturate. Then, leave it for at least 15 minutes before rinsing. As for your carpets, once they’re mold-infested and have a musty smell to go along with it, there’s no other choice but to replace them.

Wooden Surfaces

For wooden surfaces such as cabinets, paneling, or furniture, you have to use a milder cleaning solution like dishwasher soap with water. After wiping the wooden surface down, dry it immediately with a fan to avoid it warping and to avoid damaging the finish.

Mattresses or Upholstery

The first step to clean mold from these things is to vacuum the entire thing down. If there are still stains, take a cloth dipped in a mixture of rubbing alcohol and warm water and dab it over the area. Then, rinse it with a water-dampened sponge and make sure to dry it out. It’s also best to spray it with a disinfectant to prevent spores from lingering.

Fabrics

In the Baguio rainy months, it’d be wise to always look out for your fabrics to detect mold early. Once you see some, simply take the items out and brush away the surface mold. Then, soak them in a mixture of chlorine bleach for a few hours and rinse. Remember to check the fabric labels though to avoid further damaging them in washing.
